Monte Vista Safe Streets For All

Updated: 6 hours ago

Monte Vista is developing a local Safety Action Plan that looks at where crashes happen, why they happen, and what practical steps can make streets safer for everyone—drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, seniors, kids, and people with disabilities. Monte Vista's local plan is part of a coordinated nationwide incentive to fund and develop Safe Street projects across the country in order to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities and improve local communities.

This project is about planning, not construction. It creates a roadmap the City can use to:

  • Identify priority safety improvements

  • Apply for future state and federal funding

  • Coordinate with CDOT and Rio Grande County

  • Track safety progress over time

What Safe Streets is Not . . .

  • Not a construction project

  • Not an automatic change to speed limits or road design

  • Not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ urban design policy

Any future changes will come back to City Council for discussion and approval.

Safe Streets Monte Vista aims to improve safety in the street network throughout the city.
